(More customer reviews)I first played this game on the standard card version and had a blast playing it.The only flaw with it was that after you've played for a while, you might start remembering words you've seen before and the order in which they come.
So I bought the electronic version thinking it would be a simple improvement - more words in a random sequence.It's not that simple.
Pros:
- The size of the word list, and the fact that you can choose categories is a great addition.
- The portable design. You only have to carry around 1 unit, rather than a box with the unit, the cards, and the buzzer.
- Still the same great game.
Cons:
- The fact that there's no "off" switch hampers the portability.Since the game turns on if you press one of the buttons, if you just pack this in a bag, it can easily turn itself on, and start making that LOUD beeping sound.You need a screwdriver to remove the batteries, so that's not really an option either.
- There's no volume control and the default is very loud.
- Restrictive gameplay.The original card based game was pretty loose. You could split up into teams, or you could keep score in some other way.You could play up to a number, or you could keep playing until you got bored. The electronic version forces you to split into 2 teams and play up to 10 points.There's a voice calling out the score after each point, which is annoying.Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to reset the game- if you end in the middle of a game, it'll pick up in that game the next time you play, whether you want to or not.

I think the basic strengths of the game outweigh the problems with the electronic version, but if you're someone used to the offline version, don't assume that the electronic version is exactly the same.

Like describing your toilet! We all try to come up with creative and sometimes vague answers to throw the person guessing off. It's so much fun!

The pros and cons are:

Pros-
It gets you thinking creatively.
Helps you get to know the other players better.
Fun for any age

Cons-
The point system is somewhat confusing
The guessing system could be perfected
Doesn't come with a white board eraser

These things could be changed easily. They don't really affect the game play.

I'd recommend this game to anyone.

(More customer reviews)Do you like Scrabble but get hung up trying to use those special point squares, are bummed when someone "steals your spot", or dragged down by Debbie Dictionary ("just let me look up this one word") or Slow Joe (who takes 20 minutes for each turn)?Well you would love Bananagrams, because it solves those problems.There are no special squares (or squares at all), no points on the letters (all are worth the same) and no time to dawdle.You are instead rewarded for speed and flexibility in making your own crossword.You can completely pull apart your crossword and start from scratch if you need to or just swap out a letter here and there, but don't get caught with a bunch of spare letters when an opponent goes out!

It is exciting and challenging to play this game with adults, but it can be fun to include the kids.You can easily adapt the rules to suit yourself.We "handicap" the adults by drawing two tiles for every one the kids draw.You can play solitaire or have several players.

A similar game that I also love is Learning Resources' "Take Four".If you are the type who would prefer to have a grid to keep those tiles straight, or likes to have a few "jokers" thrown in, you might prefer this.But Banagrams is far more portable and much cheaper.I like both of these games so much (as well as the spelling card games Quiddler, My Word, and Tri-Virsity) that the old Scrabble board is gathering dust.

If you play the game enough, everyone gets a chance to win. So, most times we would play this until each person had a chance to win. A great colorful game with easy to move pawns. Great family fun, but easy enough for kids to take out the game on a rainy day and entertain themselves.

(More customer reviews)Monopoly is often overlooked as a gamenight option these days, many people considering it outdated. But it's a classic for a reason, combining lucky rolls and strategy in a very unique way.
The fact is that most people don't play Monopoly by the correct rules, and that makes all the difference. The key to enjoying the game is the inter-player deals and politics. That's where all the fun lies, and much of the strategy. Any player can strike any kind of a deal with another player - want to trade all the purples and light blues for Boardwalk? No problem. Want to trick someone into trading a property you need for all your railroads? This is where the real enjoyment comes from. I encourage you not only to get the game and play it, but to read the rules and "get into" the game.
There are also some fun alternate rules you can use, such as collecting $400 (instead of $200) when you *land* directly on "go", or putting fine money (from chance cards, utility expenses, get out of jail money, etc.) in the center of the board and collecting it when you land on "free parking".
Don't overlook Monopoly as an outdated option. It's still one of the best games out there.

The game is fun, and it makes you want to out-think the opponents.

From what I hear, my brother's family has been playing the game almost daily since my nephew received it.What better reception could there be for a game?

This game is money well spent.I believe that it will help my nephew develop logical thinking skills and strategy development.The fact that he is smiling all the while, is icing on the cake.

(I also purchased a Cranium Wonder Works Super Recorder and I would give it 5+ stars - highly recommended!)The 7 year old could work the recorder ok...but as other reviewers stated, there just isn't enough time to speak.The eraser and the markers constantly pop out and fall on the floor and then you hear "MOM...".Not much you can do about it when you are driving.The stickers will not stay on the paper in the book, but hey, they made great window decorations.If you do purchase this product for travel - one word of warning.I think the package said batteries included, but they are for demonstration only.The batteries gave way quickly - good thing to replace them before use, or take some backups.

(More customer reviews)I originally bought this game for my classroom to help my students develop thinking skills.When it first arrived, I took the game home to figure out how to play it before introducing it to my students--and I was hooked!My own children are ages 10 and 11 and they love the game (we are buying a game for home), but I teach students up to age 18 and they enjoy the game just as much.Educationally, it helps younger students develop a better understanding of spatial relations and planning ahead.For older students (and adults) it helps to develop various strategy skills.

Unlike most educational games, the rules are simple and once you've played it through one time (or watched it through one time) all your effort can go into plotting your moves.The game doesn't run out of possibilities, either; every game is different, even if you play with the same people over and over.

As an educator, parent, and game enthusiast, this was money well spent.

We purchased this game a year ago and it has been so well-received by the people we play it with that now many of those same people own it themselves. What higher praise can you give to a game that you play it and then want to own it yourself?

The play of Apples to Apples could not be easier. It contains nothing more than two sets of cards. Each green card has an adjective or description on it (like "Awful," "Scary," or "Scintillating")while red cards have nouns (like "Waterfalls," "The CIA," "George Washington," or "Mad Cow Disease.") Each person gets a set of red cards and each will be a judge in turn for the winning answer. The judge turns over a green card and players must play a red card from their hand that they believe will line up with the word on the green card or will appeal to that round's judge. Table talk is encouraged and makes the game more fun. The judge then decides which red card best fits the green card and the one who played the winning red card wins the round. It's that simple.

The fact that everyone gets to not only play, but also judge, makes the game unpredictable. Some judges will look for the most logical match, while others may go for the absurd pairing. You can also add some other tricks, too, that enliven the game. If you have six or more people playing, you can play so that the last person to play a red card has to take his back and sit out the round--makes for quick thinking and crazy answers.

We've never had a single person ever dislike this game and it is the one we reach for over Cranium, Taboo, Balderdash, and all the other party games like them. For its cleverness and simple play, Apples to Apples has won numerous awards, including Games Magazine's Top 100 Games award and a special citation from Mensa.

This edition is loaded with cards and has virtually unlimited gameplay. It's the best deal for the money. It is hard to tell if this version is the one that includes the wooden box (once called "The Crate Edition"), but that nice, woodburned box is truly wonderful to have and makes the game seem even more special.

Purchasing this game is a true no-brainer. It's fun for a wide variety of ages and number of players, takes no time to learn, and always plays differently from one match to the next. And it's a hoot! If there is any con, it's that the cards can get a little manhandled over time since they are not fully laminated, but that's not enough to diminish the joy this game brings.

A can't miss game and worth every penny.

This is not a game for 12 year olds, I would strongly recommend it for people over 18, however. I love that it can be played in only a half hour, I want to scream when other trivia games go over the two hour mark. I thought many of the trivia questions were clever. Bottom line, of the group of four of us, everyone thought this game was awesome.
